Introduction

With very few clues, we have been able to find a good deal of information about our Johnson and McElroy ancestors. Members of each family first came to the United States in the 1860s. Our great great aunt Christina Johnson, was the first to arrive, emigrating around 1860. Great grandfather Patrick McElroy and his sister Elizabeth McElroy arrived around 1865. The last to arrive in this country was great grandfather Herman Johnson, around 1882.

The Johnson family has its roots in Sweden. Our Swedish ancestors first settled in Illinois, and then migrated to California, Iowa, Nebraska, New York, Oregon, and Texas.

The McElroys came from Northern Ireland. Our Irish ancestors first settled in New York City, and then migrated to California, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
